Urban hip-hop clothes have its roots in the underground hip-hop music
and culture that was surfacing in the 1970s. Young African American men
and women pioneered the hip-hop culture, which began to evolve a style

for the breakdancer and a more economical choice.

watches. And below all, the kicks: high tops, mid tops, sneakers or work
boots often matching the color of the hat. Shoes are also integral to
women's urban hip-hop fashion, which can be a bit bolder with bright colored
pumps or boots with leg warmers attached.
As a final rule, anything "ghetto" is in, especially if it's
denim. It's the one fabric that's eternally fashionable in urban hip-hop
clothes. Everyone's got fly jeans and a denim outfit or two. And women
love accentuating curves with denim.
